about sleepy newborn sessions that will surprise you

A newborn session usually takes place when your sweet baby is under two weeks old, so you may wonder how I get the photographs and what happens during the session

1. Baby’s Poop!
Let’s get it out of the way now – it’s a fact! They will usually wait until the nappy is off to do it too. Don’t be alarmed and please, do not apologise! Everything baby touches during the session is washed anyway, so it doesn’t really matter whether it’s still clean or not!

2. Babies Don’t Always Sleep
Newborns sleep all day, right…?! Well, not always, but that’s ok. Your baby doesn’t have to sleep during the newborn session to get some beautiful pictures.

3. It can take a while!
A newborn session may take up to 4 hours. Each session is completely baby led and the only session booked in that day, so if baby is hungry, we will stop for a feed…and let’s not forget the cuddles!

4. It’s hot?!
As new babies are unable to regulate their own body temperature, it’s so important to ensure they are comfortable whilst they have no clothes on, the studio is kept warm…very warm!

5. It’s noisy
No, not your baby! It’s so loud in your womb and although you may feel the need to whisper around a sleeping baby, they actually prefer it to be noisy, so I have white noise playing during the session.

6. It will probably be the first time you’ve left the house
It’s quite likely going to be your first outing since giving birth, but do not worry! I will give you a 30 minute window to arrive for your session so you do not feel rushed.

7. Dads can get involved
During the first few days dad can feel a bit useless, especially if you are breastfeeding. Dad can get involved in the session and we can take some beautiful pictures of them together.
